Grown Woman
36" x 24" x 3"
Plaster, acrylic paint, pigment, resin on wood panel
With this piece, I reflect on the illusion of adulthood—the way it once shimmered through the wide-eyed gaze of my younger self, and how it reveals itself now through lived experience.
As a girl, I believed adults were flawless—paragons of strength, wisdom, and certainty. They were untouchable, always right, immune to doubt. Adulthood, to me, was a final destination: a place where mistakes no longer happened, and freedom reigned without consequence. That belief was shaped by the power adults held and the discipline they enforced. I couldn’t wait to arrive there.
But now, standing in adulthood myself, I see the truth more clearly. The uncertainties never left. The mistakes didn’t stop. What changed was the way we carry them—with grace, with ownership, without fear of punishment. Being grown doesn’t mean being perfect. It means learning to hold both power and vulnerability with open hands.
Grown Woman captures that duality. The bold, radiant expression reflects the pride I carry in my own evolution, while the delicate butterflies speak to transformation—the ongoing, often fragile process of becoming. They symbolize the beauty in change, the freedom in growth, and the softness required to evolve.
This piece is a love letter to the younger self in all of us. A reminder that adulthood isn’t a fixed point—it’s a series of seasons. That strength can live alongside uncertainty. That real freedom comes from embracing who you are, even in your messiness.
This is what it means to be a grown woman.
